How Do You Name Novel Concepts In Your Setting?
Sometimes when worldbuilding I take inspiration from real world cultures. As such I often begin by importing concepts verbatim. But along the way of worldbuilding, in the pursuit of insuring internal consistency and coherence, these concepts are frequently distorted beyond recognition. At that point the very name of the concept sort of loses it's meaning. But I often struggle with what exactly to replace that name with.
When you create new practices, artefacts, locations, or concepts, how do you name them? Do you go by an in-world conlang? Do you use English polyonyms which can be easily translated into any language? Or do you stick to a single cultural context from the real world?
