Kids fishing party: where to go right now?

I have a young son who wants to go fishing with a few buddies for his birthday in October. I don't know much about fishing seasons in Chattanooga. Normally he and I will just go somewhere and try something, and sometimes we hook several fish and sometimes we hook none. But for a birthday party, I would like there to be a decent probability that at least one of the kids catches a fish. What is a good place to go this time of year where some elementary-school-aged kids would be reasonably assured of getting a bite or two? Where should we go, and what should we be fishing for? It would be from shore, not on a boat.
