Disclosure: I’m currently building Televora, a digital signage platform, so I’m approaching this both as a developer and as someone trying to understand the real operational problems in this space.

From what I’ve seen, the difficult part is rarely just displaying an image or video. The bigger issues seem to be:

• updating content quickly without training staff on complex software
• recovering automatically after power or internet interruptions
• knowing when a screen is offline
• keeping content running without a permanent connection
• securely pairing and managing devices
• avoiding unnecessary hardware and maintenance

For people who manage signage systems today, which of these causes the most trouble in practice?

I’m especially interested in lessons from real deployments, including what looked simple at first but became difficult later.
