Cannot extend knee straight still after arthroscopy & debridement
I (31 F) was in a motorcycle accident March 7th earlier this year and had fractured a couple bones in my feet and bruised my knee pretty badly. I was unable to extend it straight after my accident still 2 months later so my ortho wanted to take a look at it surgically since my MRI was fine. For context, for 2 whole months I was walking on my toes on my left foot since I had to walk with my knee slightly bent, which I’m sure I tightened certain muscles in my leg compared to before.
I had an arthroscopy and he cleaned out a bunch of scar tissue and around my “fat pad”. He didn’t see any tearing, just a bruised meniscus. He told me he made it straight completely and bent all the way back before my surgery was over, but I cannot extend it straight or bend it back more than 90 degrees without unbearable sharp pain under my knee cap and muscle spasms (I had the surgery 2 weeks ago).
He ordered PT yesterday at my follow up so I’m hoping that helps, but I’m terrified even after the stretches I’m doing and exercises that my knee will never extend all the way again! I feel like I’m doing this to myself and am being a wimp just not fighting through the pain.
Has anyone experienced something similar and if so were you able to extend it again?
