Income Tax Question
I started a full-time, temporary job (co-op, I’m in university) this summer and I believe I may be getting taxed too much, specifically income tax.
For context, last summer I worked another co-op, making the same amount hourly for the same duration, and I did not get income tax taken out of my paychecks nor did I have to pay at the end of this tax season.
I will be making $16,000 this summer. I know that puts me over the Ontario Provincial personal amount and under the Federal personal amount. I got 12.53% in income tax deducted from my last paycheck, and 15.75% deducted from this one, thats not including CPP and EI.
Can someone explain why this might be the case, the disparity between me getting taxed this year but not last year? Is there a chance I shouldn’t be paying tax and filled out my TD1s wrong?
Thanks!
