Why is trying to watch Spider-Noir in Black and White such a difficult experence?
Maybe I'm just really dumb and there is a super easy way to do it. If so please tell me!
I wake up this morning and have some time before work, so I am going to watch the first episode of Spider-Noir in black and white.
I download the amazon prime app to my apple tv (I don't watch things on prime video, just have prime for the shipping related stuff).
Log into the app, start watching Spider-Noir, hit with ads. I pay for Amazon Prime, why are there ads?
Fine, how much to remove ad? $2.99 per month (Canadian). Fine, I'll pay for one month.
I go back to the show, the blurb says I can switch between color and black and white by using the alternate versions button below on supported devices. Show starts playing in color.
I pause the show and look at the menus that are below the play bar. X-ray, subtitles, and settings. No alternative version. I go into settings to see if it's there, nope. I check all the other options like x-ray and subtitles just to make sure it's not there as well. Maybe apple tv app isn't a supported device?
I download the prome video app on my iphone, but still no black and white option.
Now I'm reading posts on how to watch the black and white version. People say it's just there as soon as you start the show like two buttons one that syas watch in color and one that says watch in black and white. Nope, not there for me, just a single play button.
I read things about it comming out on MGM+ earlier. Myabe the black and white isn't available on Prime yet? I dunno, it dosen't make sense but sure, let's go down that path a bit.
I find MGM+ in the prome video app and start the one week free trial (fine, I'll be done the show before the trial ends).
I go back to the Spider-Noir (on my phone) and I now see the two play options. Great!
I go to my apple tv, because I don't want to watch it on my phone. But I still don't see the black and white option. Maybe it does have to do with the MGM+ subscription and the apple tv app just hasn't refreshed my subscription?
I log out of the apple tv app and back in. I confirm that the apple tv app does indeed see the MGM+ subscription. But still no black and white option.
Ok, I guess I'll just use the screen cast feature from the app on the phone. No devices found. Why? I guess apple tv isn't supported for prime video's casting feature.
Ok, so I use apple's screen mirroring feature to mirror my iphone to my apple tv and start the show in black and white on the prime app on the phone, mirroed to the tv. Huge work around, but finally it is working.
At this point I don't have time to watch the show before work. Maybe I'm just dumb and missed something but this seems like a lot of work just to watch a show. So far not a great initial experence.
