Is it too soon?

We are scheduled for euthanasia next week for our 14 year old poodle chihuahua. We brought him in last month to be assessed by our vet, and she said his vitals are great but he’s old and can be put down if we want. It was a little too nonchalant for us and now we don’t know what to do. I have trauma from my childhood soul animal passing abruptly and I don’t want my dog to pass the same way, but also I don’t want to make the call too early.

The concerns:

Teeth are very bad (all 2 of them) Likely sore gums. Can only eat soft foods.

Eyes have decent cataracts. Common and not a big deal.

We are in diapers full time now for bladder control. Poops are good outside though!

Hip joints- Hip dysplasia. One of his hips often (once a day at least) pops out and he has to walk on 3 legs until it pops back in. Apparently this is quite painful, but never seems to complain.

Some days lethargic, some days not. He eats. Drinks. Wags his precious tail. Mentally available, physically looks rough and always hides pain really well so I can’t even get a decent read on him.

I feel like I’m too close, and my doctor was too agreeable and threw me off by saying he is internally healthy.

Too soon? Thank you
