Where to stay after Izu Peninsula? (Other than Tokyo)
Planning a short return trip to Japan and looking for recommendations on how to spend our last few days. We really enjoyed the natural side of Japan on our last trip, so we hope the Izu area is a good spot to explore more of that!
Current plan is:
Rent a car and spend 3–4 days exploring the Izu Peninsula
After that, we’ll have another 2–3 days before flying home out of Narita, and we’re not sure where to go next.
This is our second trip to Japan, so we’ve already done a lot of the major Tokyo sights and don’t necessarily need more big-city time — already did most of Kyoto/Osaka too. Top contenders seem to be Fuji Five Lakes, Kamakura, and Nikko, though open to any hidden gems you guys might know about!
EDIT:
Another thought was to take the Shinkansen to Hiroshima (looks like about 5 hrs) then fly back to Narita from Hiroshima airport to connect back. Not sure how feasible this is…
