I'm considering buying a Wii U to play my Wii games again. But can it still play Wii games in 2026?
I handed my Wii over to someone, but I still have most of my collection and would like to keep playing them, even if it means starting over, as well as finally buy and play some of these elusive Wii U games I've wanted for years (Nintendoland and Sonic Lost World being my main targets and I might also get Twilight Princess HD since I also handed my Wii copy alongside my Wii.).
But rewatching a certain someone's video ("Hey y'all, Scott here!"), I realize the Wii U needed a day one patch which enabled Wii retrocompatibility in the first place.
But with the Wii U's various online services being shut down, is this patch still downloadable? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm big on gaming, not so much on some of the technicals.
(Note: I'm hoping to buy a black Wii U, most likely used, for more storage alongside Nintendoland. You know, start my Wii U journey proper.)
