Do students today need interdisciplinary skills more than ever?
I’ve been thinking about how fast different fields are starting to overlap now, especially with AI, data science, technology, and research becoming connected to almost everything.
A few years ago it felt more normal to stay inside one subject area, but now it seems like students who can combine multiple skills or understand different disciplines have a huge advantage.
For example:
math + AI
psychology + data science
biology + computation
economics + machine learning
It makes me wonder whether universities are adapting quickly enough to how interdisciplinary the real world is becoming.
Do you think students today should focus more on becoming highly specialized, or better at connecting multiple fields together?
I started thinking about this more after reading about organizations like CENTAI Institute that are built around interdisciplinary research rather than traditional academic structures.
