1/64 Die Cast Collection
I’ve been going through my diecast collection the last couple of days and realised my taste has changed a lot compared to when I first started buying stuff.
Back then I was honestly just grabbing anything I liked the look of. Old Bburago 1:18s, movie cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, random pickups here and there. Some of the Bburagos I’ve had since I was a teenager, so they’ve followed me around for 20+ years at this point.
Lately though I’ve found myself getting way more interested in the premium 1/64 side of the hobby. Brands like Tarmac Works and Mini GT have kind of ruined me a bit because now I notice details, proportions, stance, quality, all that stuff.
I’ve also realised I’m naturally gravitating toward a certain type of car without even trying to. Lots of homologation cars, rally and touring car heritage, Evos, 190Es, fast wagons, older performance sedans. Cars that have a bit of history or personality behind them.
So I’ve started moving a few things on. Not because they’re bad models, but because they just don’t really feel like “me” anymore when I look at the collection as a whole. Some of the older stuff now just feels like things I own rather than things I actually collect.
What’s left feels way more cohesive and honestly I’m enjoying the collection more now than when I had a heap more cars sitting around.
Feels less like accumulating stuff and more like building a collection with an actual identity behind it.
Curious if anyone else has gone through the same thing as their collection evolved over time.
