Reference after dismissal
I have a job interview coming up for something I’m really excited for.
I’ve contacted my old companies HR department and they confirmed they’ll put my job roles, the dates, and reason for leaving. They’ve just told me that my reference would say “person was dismissed from the group”
The worry I have is that it was for sickness following a disciplinary process but it was mental health/work stress on how the company was treating me. I will be taking it further as I have a lot of evidence about fairness and discrimination about the whole thing, but if I provide the reference to the new company and they see “dismissed” I’m worried they won’t give me a chance to explain and will withdraw my application.
My application says I will give references upon request and maybe at that stage I give them a vague heads up that it’ll say dismissal but it wasn’t for performance or gross misconduct it was following a difficult period that I’ve since reflected on and managed and am ready to move into a new role.
Any advice on how I approach this? I’m hoping the new company doesn’t even ask for references.
