Lubber grasshopper solutions for the insectophobe?
Hey guys! This is my second season gardening in Central FL, this time with herbs grown from seedlings and today on my first pruning noticed these small white dots. I feared spider mites, but it seems the more likely culprit is lubber grasshoppers, which despite being a native Floridian I have never encountered?! Hindsight is 20/20—apparently I should have been disposing of them in their juvenile stages, but now it's too late and the only methods that work seem to be grabbing and drowning them in soapy water or cutting them in half, both of which require a level of proximity and bravery I simply do NOT HAVE. I love a pollinator and can coexist with a lovebug but I appreciate that I don’t have to grab them. Any other suggestions? Netting over my herbs...? A repellent? Or perhaps any fellow insectophobes have found a crafty and distanced approach to their executions?? Any advice is appreciated, thank you!!
