Ghaliyah Al-Taif
I posted yesterday that my order from Sokkat Alteeb arrived, and wrote in the comments my impression of Old Cambodi after my first wear of it.
Here is my impression of Ghaliyah Al-Taif.
First I will say, I have not smelled anything like this before. It is a beautiful rich and complex aroma. It feels regal, deep and smooth. It feels like the scent wraps around you.
At a high level, I get oud, rose, musk, and ambergris, with a sweet/ tartness I read to be pomegranate. These notes are all very prominent and recognizable, even to someone inexperienced in ouds and attars as me.
For context, I have around 80 bottles in my fragrance collection and at least a hundred samples of different scents.
It’s BEAUTIFUL. I thoroughly enjoy this, however I’m not sure it is something I would wear in public unless I had a tailored suit on with a trimmed beard and gold watch.
The fragrance is sweet (fruity?) and honey-like, slightly smoky and warm like it’s warming the air.
I’m not too familiar with deer musk, except from Bortnikoff Musk Cologne (which is among my favourite fragrances). This musk has a similar feeling but less sharp. It’s sweet and warm and slightly animalic but extremely pleasant. I’ll emphasize sweet again.
The ambergris is salty and ‘old’ smelling.
The rose is fruity and moist, very floral but dark in a way.
The ingredients blend so well, they all hit you at the same time but are distinctive.
As time has passed I’m getting a leather note as well.
The oud has been getting stronger over time, and more fruity.
It’s quite intense!
I am very much enjoying this experience. I hope I explained the feeling of the scent well enough!
Thanks 🙏🏼
