Non-Compete Clause in fist job offer
* First (Sorry for spelling in title.)
Hi! I’m a new engineering grad and after 100s of applications have managed to land a role in my field of study (medtech). Almost everything about the role is great (salary, benefits and location) but there is a broad non-compete clause that bars me from working at any competitors for 1 year if my employment is terminated for any reason. Worse, the clause includes a section stating that because of how broad it is that we would be expect to pursue litigation in Texas specifically. From what I’ve found online, Texas isn’t very employee friendly. Even if they do rule in my favor, I understand that the solution would be to rewrite the agreement so that it is in favor of my potential employer. Is this normal?
Sorry if this is kind of ramble, i’ve been thinking about it non-stop for the last day.
