CS student turned millwright ?
Just writing here to see if what im doing makes sense. Basically I studied CS but before that i had done a bunch of differents jobs without any degree. Turned out CS idk if its for me or not but the job market is bad enough + CRUD apps are boring really. Id enjoy working on like embedded system programming or whatever but my degree wont give me that anyway.
So in my free time ive taught myself c++, gfx pipeline, and video game engine design and now im teaching myself like electronics cuz im trying to repair broken stuff for fun but also hopefully earn from it. Im working as a telecom tech for home installs which is the job i did before CS school, I went back to it after not finding a job and not even a week ago i started to apply to random stuff and i applied to apprenticeship for electromecanic, which turns out to me a millwright apprenticeship.
I visit the shop and the guys seem cool, willing to train me from the ground up, teaching everything from welding to electrical work. I mean, sounds like a good idea even though id take a decent paycut but id learn stuff. The guys told me its a great job if i enjoy problem solving and welding and touching everything. So my question is, does a guy like me can be a match in that industry, honestly ?
