Border run from Yunnan

I'm on a 10-year, multiple entry L visa with 60-day stays. I've got to do a border run in 8 or 9 days. I'll be in Yunnan by the time the clock runs out for me and I'm struggling to sort out where to go that's as cheap as possible. But the complicating factor is that I have a very serious intolerance of heat and humidity. If I have to spend a chunk of change to fly out, it needs to be some place I can enjoy being outdoors for at least a few days, maybe even a week. Hopefully weather in the 60s or low to mid 70s and no sticky humidity. So the determining criteria are climate and expense. Where do you suggest?

I have another question, just as an aside. Are there any US passport holders here who got 90 day stays with their 10-year, multiple entry L Visa?

Thanks very much.

Xichang in Sichuan

I'm in Leshan now and supposed to meet up with a (Chinese citizen) friend in the next week who is van touring. He told me I'm not allowed to join him southbound in the Liangshan Yi Autonomous prefecture and that I can meet him in Xichang on the other side in a few days. But I just looked at the map and that's still inside the autonomous area. My passport Is US. I'm wondering if anyone on here has recently been able to ride HSR to Xichang and stay there, legit registered with the police?
