Is yellow cap oven cleaner safe to use for carbon buildup removal?

I see this being recommended for carbon buildup removal, but how is that safe if cast iron is porous? If cast iron is porous enough to absorb oils and fats to create a seasoning layer, isn’t it also porous enough to absorb the toxic chemicals in the yellow cap oven cleaner? How is this managed/considered? Thank you!
