Hi Everyone,

Im a PhD new grad trying to choose between amazon and microsoft.

Microsoft TC - 240k + performance based target bonuses (0-70k not sure how much I can hit)

location - Bay area

Amazon TC - 340k (Not sure about any performance bonuses)

location - Seattle

AFAIK both teams are product aligned and fairly stressful. Should I give consideration to the senior title and choose microsoft or is it meaningless?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to get some clarity on how Amazon is filing Applied Scientist roles for H-1B purposes this year, especially for SOC classification and wage level determination.

I currently have an L5 Applied Scientist offer from Amazon. Based on the current base salary, it seems like the role may fall into Wage Level 1 if classified under “Computer and Information Research Scientists,” which I believe has been the classification used in previous years. When I raised this concern with the recruiter, the response was essentially that their immigration team would figure this out later.

I also have other offers with lower TC than Amazon, but higher base salaries that would likely put me at Wage Level 3 for H-1B purposes. So I’m trying to understand how much weight to put on this issue before making a decision.

Does anyone know whether Amazon has recently, especially this year, been filing Applied Scientist roles under “Computer and Information Research Scientists,” or under a different SOC / occupation category? Has anyone with an Applied Scientist offer gone through this process recently and seen how the role was classified?

Any clarity would be really helpful.
