Just to prefix - I’ve got a ‘99 318is
Now that it’s getting nice and sunny in the UK I’ve started driving with the windows down. A couple days ago I noticed that the engine was making a light ticking noise every time I idled at a light or junction. Yesterday evening the ticking was slightly louder when I first turned the engine on however the noise instantly went away as soon as I started driving and didn’t return even when idling. It then did the same this morning, and again this afternoon. I don’t understand what would have changed to make the last 3 times only tick on turning over and stop as soon as the car moves, compared to ticking during every idle.
Everything I’ve found when searching says it is likely one of the following 3:
Oil Type
Oil Level
Oil filter
But I know all of these are fine as I had an oil change only 2 months ago and I checked today and the oil level is okay?
