final video of me teaching myself a waltz

hey y’all! the last couple of weeks i’ve posted 2 videos about my waltz and it’s come so far in 3 weeks. I’m very proud to say that i am graduating from LTS and moving into a more advanced group lesson and will be starting private lessons from there so i can get more one on one technique help. I’m working on perfecting my edges and timing because I think I have potential to have very high jumps I just don’t know how to make it happen yet 😅 As always, thanks for the feedback and support!

Some coaches would like me to step over some will tell me not to. since my learn to skate group is kind of big I taught myself most of my crossovers which is probably why they are wonky. I learn a lot by trying to copy and I’ve been told my crossovers are ice dance-ish or progressives on multiple occasions but I honestly thought that was just the right way to do it because I thought you weren’t supposed to step over yourself eventually and you are supposed to glide over its also easier for me to lean in that way.

the first clip is how i’ve been doing it for a while, I understand the push under very well but sometimes it looks like I’m kinda just taking big steps even though I can feel my blade pushing so i was wondering if i have to push tighter as in my feet closer together. Then i thought maybe it’s the extension making it like that so i took it out only to realize i am now just doing a half swizzle and lifting occasionally 😭 so i went back to a lower extension and trying to step over my self and lean more only for it to look exactly the same but a little less pretty. I should speak up and ask in class instead of asking the internet but alas i am very shy and im still trying to get comfortable. I’ve been working up the courage to ask one of the coaches I really like for private lessons which has to happen soon because i’m nearing the end of the LTS levels so bare with me until then💀

Hi guys it’s me again I feel like I post in here quite often but i’m obsessed with the sport what can I say. I think (emphasis on think) I have somewhat fixed my arms in the waltz. To the person who suggested I start with my hands in a prayer position thank you so much because that seemed to help tremendously. I am now able to do the jump from backwards crossovers and it gets me a little bit of speed but correct me if i’m wrong, i think overall I am struggling to get on a deeper outside edge starting the jump and I think my blade is pretty flat right now. For the sake of my technique and trying to do a jump with no coach I will continue to do it from the glide to try and reduce bad habits as much as possible before I can get proper help. My backwards crossovers are also not that great but I just wanted to try it 😭. Now for my last question about these and in general, what is the correct arm landing position? When I land my arms drop down and bounce up especially from when I do it from the crossover. Should they be in a T or an L or does it matter as long as they’re not waving all over. Thank you to all of you for your help, the positivity in this community makes it so easy to want to progress! 🩵
