My sensei (Nago Matsuyama) is directly second generation from sensei Funakoshi and while been true to his Japanese roots, he introduced Taijitsu and Bo training to his syllabus. It’s fascinating to see how all these are connected and sometimes I wonder Karate is more heavy in grappling than striking. Is adding grappling components and weapons to Shotokan karate a bad idea? Open for discussion, let me know if you have a similar experience. But I find it very insightful to understand the deep end of karate.
