Last High School Baseball Game
Not really sure why I’m posting this, but I guess I just need advice from people who have been through something similar.
Our high school baseball team lost in the first round of playoffs to a team we honestly should’ve beaten. We were top 3 in the state all year and everybody thought we had a real shot to win it all. We made Final Four last year, were ranked #1 at one point, and over the last 3 years our senior class went something like 60-12 in probably the toughest conference in the state. This seriously felt like the year.
The hardest part is that I’m the only senior not playing college baseball. So that game was basically the last organized baseball game of my life unless I play club in college. I’ve been playing with these guys since middle school and I genuinely can’t shake the feeling that it’s just over. No more practices, bus rides, going out to eat after games, messing around before practice, any of it.
Baseball has honestly been my whole life for as long as I can remember. I don’t really know who I am without it.
What makes it worse is how the game happened. We lost 4-1 and couldn’t hit at all, which was usually our biggest strength. We’ve faced D1 pitchers all year and still hit them, but then in playoffs we lose to a guy who was decent but not unhittable. Felt like we flew out 15 times. If we played that team 10 times I honestly think we beat them 9.
I know people say “that’s baseball,” but it just makes me sick thinking that we waited all season for playoffs and then it ended instantly.
I don’t know. I just feel empty right now and can’t stop thinking about how I’ll never be on the field with those guys again. If anyone has advice for dealing with sports ending or tough playoff losses I’d appreciate it.
