Question About Academy/FTO Timing With National Guard Orders
I’m looking at attending the academy for my county sheriff’s office while also serving in the National Guard.
My concern is the timing. I have future military orders projected to last around 16 months. Based on the academy and FTO timeline, I would likely either be finishing FTO or just getting off FTO around the time those orders would begin.
How is this usually viewed by agencies? I know military obligations are protected, but realistically would this create major issues with the department considering they just invested a significant amount of time and money into training me?
If I had to leave for those orders, would agencies typically bring someone back afterward with refresher training? If I later reapplied with another agency, would leaving shortly after academy/FTO be viewed negatively?
Just looking for honest opinions or any other concerns I should consider.
