Medicine in gelatine capsules - is there a difference in absorption if I open them up?

I have been prescribed ADHD meds which come in gelatine capsules but I’m vegetarian, so I’ve been opening the capsules and putting the powder into my morning protein shake (the leaflet in the packet says this is OK to do).

Today I wasn’t concentrating (see: ADHD!) and just swallowed the capsule whole. The meds have hit differently today - they feel way more intense than before. Everything else was the same: the dose, the time I took them, what I ate and drank beforehand, etc.

So my question is, how much difference does a gelatine capsule make to absorption? Gelatine dissolves in lukewarm water so I can’t imagine it surviving that well in warm stomach acid. Is there really a difference?

My friend and I booked a holiday through LoveHolidays but significant changes were made without our approval and we only discovered these when we had arrived at — and been turned away from — our intended hotel.

We have sent a detailed complaint plus supporting photos and documents to LoveHolidays complaints department but, after 28 days, we haven’t heard anything back. What are our next steps?

  1. Originally booked Hotel A where I’ve stayed twice before. Paid in full on the day.

  2. Two months later our booking with that hotel was cancelled as it was undergoing full refurbishment, and we were offered Hotel B which was broadly similar but in a different area. We accepted the change.

  3. We arrived at Hotel B only to be told that there was no booking in our name. We logged into LoveHolidays client portal and it was still showing our booking as being with Hotel B.

  4. We attempted to ring LoveHolidays’ helpline but couldn’t get through on either of our mobiles, nor on the hotel’s phone.

  5. We began a text chat with a LoveHolidays rep who couldn’t tell us anything. She knew nothing about the cancellation of Hotel B booking, nor where the driver and his colleague were intending to take us. All the information we gave her got the response “please give me 5-10 minutes to confirm this.” Nothing was confirmed. The men refused to call the hotel for us.

  6. We eventually discovered that the men were intending to take us to Hotel A, which was confusing as we understood it was under refurbishment. LoveHolidays’ rep could not get hold of Hotel A to confirm this (probably because nobody was there because **it was under refurbishment**). Apparently her computer did not tell her this. She told us to go with the men anyway.

  7. We arrived next door to Hotel A, at the similarly-named sister hotel, C. Hotels A and B are 5-star. Hotel C is 4-star. I knew this because I’ve stayed there before. The men denied this and said it was 5-star. We had nowhere else to go and no way of getting there so we had to check in or sleep on the street.

  8. A lot of the advertised facilities at Hotel C were closed down, boarded up or just not available. The food was wildly variable in quality and availability. Several times there were not enough dining tables and we were expected to stand around with full plates of food waiting for a table to become available.

We have complained and asked for a full refund of the first night, plus 30% of the rest of the holiday, but have heard nothing back and it’s past their 28-day deadline. What are our next steps?
