What so special about fabric semantic models

Hi all - long time power BI user and upskilling on fabric a question - what is so special about fabric 'semantic' models - compared to what is already available in power bi

I know semantic models helps provides that consistent view and can provide a bit of a shield if underlying sources are changed. But i know you can publish them from power BI - so what is that added benefit / difference now in fabric - or is what you could do in power bi the same - just branding

I have been given a £3k budget to learn microsoft fabric and more advance AI / llm . The AI focus is more how to use llm / agentic AI

I am quite technical but not used fabric , so any advice on steer on how to use the training budget
