I completely lost the nails on both of my big toes. How long before I can hike again?
They came off a few days after I got back from a mountain hike (elevation 3063m). The toe bang on the descent was intense and I was in a lot of pain. I know I'm being quite crazy but gosh I don't know if I can wait the entire multi-month period for them to grow back fully to resume hiking again. It's only been about three days since they took them off at the clinic but I'm no longer feeling any pain, though they feel tender. Admittedly wearing even my closed fuzzy house slippers is still a little uncomfortable at the moment, so I know attempting to wear hiking boots any time soon is ambitious and deluded.
I'd like to get back to hiking sooner rather than much later (probably won't be doing another mountain anytime soon, but I'd still like to do the longer day hikes). Is there anything I can do to protect my toes and hike while the nails are growing back?
