Hi! I'm a session bass player and play a diverse range of gigs, from pop to blues to latin and everything in between.
The idea of adding a bass synth to my catalogue of services has been in my mind for quite some time now. I'm not really skilled at piano but I can find my way around simple bass lines.
Currently I use my Darkglass Anagram to imitate synth tones but it falls short when trying more hip-hop/pop tunes.
I'm wondering is saving up and buying a Moog Subsequent 37, buying a Bass Station II to start practicing, or buying a midi keyboard before I commit to an analog synthesizer, at least to try and see if I can get the bass synth playing style. My fear is to buy a Midi before an analog synth and the feel being so off that I quit the idea altogether, or maybe it is best to do it this way I'm not sure and I'm seeking for advice from synth players.
Also, If I buy a Midi, what are good VST options? I already have Arturia's Analog Lab 5, but don't remember how good the bass synth sounds were
I already have plans for a big music purchase at the end of the year, whether it is another bass or a bass synth, so the purchase of any option would be around the end of the year (although the midi is easier to get sooner).
Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance.
