[CAN-BC] HR INQUIRY
I could use some honest opinions on my situation.
My first job out of college was miserable, so I quit after about 1.5 years. I then spent roughly 7–8 months unemployed before landing another job. Unfortunately, that company laid me off after about 6 months due to a LIFO thing.
I recently accepted a new job and start this Monday. On Friday, I completed the employment verification paperwork, and the background check company is verifying exact employment dates.
Here’s the problem: on my resume, I never showed the unemployment gap. Instead, I extended the dates of my first job to cover the gap and make my work history appear continuous. At the time, I felt like having a long period of unemployment followed by a layoff after only 6 months would make me a much harder candidate to hire.
As of now, I haven’t been contacted by my future manager, HR, or the third-party company handling the background check. My start date is still scheduled for Monday, but the background check status shows as “pending.”
Given all of that, how concerned should I be?
