Pricing sanity check
I am looking to upgrade my network, and I am strongly considering entering the Ubiquiti world with the Cloud Gateway Fiber and some access points. I have a small amount of homelab gear and have been considering the Pro XG 24 POE, but I'm having a hard time swallowing the $1800 price tag, not including memory surcharge. I am tempted to buy the Pro XG 10 POE and the Pro Max 16 POE and spend the remaining $700 on hookers and blow. I currently only need 2 10gbe ports and while I will soon need more than that, I have a difficult time seeing a future in which all 10 would be in use. Many of my household devices are still 1 gbe. I know that conventional wisdom says to put everything on 1 switch, but if all of my 10 gbe devices fit on the same switch and the slower devices would have a 10gbe uplink, what am I really sacrificing other than the ability to post rack porn?
