Besides the handshake, what has Shane learned from Yuna and David?

Right away in Episode 1 we see Yuna try to shake Ilya’s hand and of course it calls back the opening scene.

I also feel like when Shane and Yuna are talking outside the cottage, Shane is crying and and she says “hey” to gain his attention before she says, “I am so, so proud of you.” It reminds me of Shane saying “Hey. Hey.” When Ilya cries about his dad and also in the hospital. I know I’m probably reading too much into it, but I like to think he learned how to comfort from her.

Did you notice anything like that?

Just for fun! Using real hockey, between Ilya’s special night and tuna meltdown (aka the Ep 4 montage), Shane and Ilya could have met up a max of 12 times, and probably less than 10. My guess is 9 times.

They played 10 games and might have met at 2 awards ceremonies (but awards are unlikely).

I imagined Shane and Ilya on the real Boston and Montreal teams and I learned some hockey along the way.

-       Odds were good they’d meet the night before games, but with an early curfiew.

-       Postgame meetups were less likely because teams frequently left town after 11 PM the same night.

-       If travel waited until morning, they’d be free around 11 PM after press, medical treatments and food. Curfiew would be looser.

-       IRL all games were around 7 PM. Players had afternoon free time but they were expected to rest. We know Shane and Ilya didn’t meet then because in Ep 5 when Ilya texted Boston Lily to come over during the day, Shane replied, “I can’t! We have a game tonight!” while sprinting out the door.

-       IRL they wouldn’t have met at All Star games because Montreal didn’t send a center either time.

-       Awards shows also seem unlikely. Boston missed the playoffs, their seasons ended in April, and Ilya probably wouldn’t fly back from Russia unless he was nomiated.

-       NHL travel in that era was brutal. Teams commonly traveled overnight after games. Modern sleep science scheduling came later.

What is your guess? Any hockey facts to add?
