Getting enough calories on *strict* keto
I am 5’4 122lbs. For medical reasons, I have to be on a very strict keto diet - 20g total carbs. I started the diet recently, but I can tell this is going to be a big problem. I’m so used to eating low calorie foods and meals, and I eat very simple food. I think that’s good as far as keto goes, besides the low cal part. But I’ve always been the type of person that can’t stand weighing food. Normally, when I weigh the stuff I’m eating, I don’t even want to eat it anymore. I’ve always preferred to eat intuitively and it’s always worked for me. But, to ensure I stay at 20g total carbs, I will have to really adjust to maintain weight on this diet. I do not want to lose weight. I’ve found some really great keto recipes, and some I’ve liked and made before, but it will be so hard to hit my macros even with these recipes because of how strict this diet is. I know I need to get used to weighing food, 😮💨 rip
I can tell I’m going to have major issues getting enough calories on this diet without just chomping on a stick of butter as a snack 🤢. I try to hit 100g protein per day. I am pretty bummed that I am starting this diet *right* before summer, with peaches and nectarines and strawberries and watermelon… jeeeeez
Edit: The condition I am treating is Bipolar 1 disorder. Really severe manic episodes. Also treats epilepsy. The meds are the same for both. I would really like to get off anticonvulsants. This strategy used to be the go-to treatment for epilepsy, with adherence issues obv. It works just as well, but when anticonvulsant meds came out, everyone fell off controlling the conditions through diet, though diet works just as well (and doesn’t cause cortical thinning)
Another edit: I am confused about people saying I don’t need to weigh food, that I can just roll with the punches doing this or whatever. The diet is 20g total carbs, not net carbs. So that requires strict planning to meet calorie goals, at least for me.
