Life after Zyn is awesome

I’ve been looking at this Reddit page for a long time, seeing everyone’s positive and negative comments on whether quitting is worth it. I have to say: withdrawals really aren’t that bad, and quitting nicotine has been 100% worth it for me.

I’ve used nicotine for the last 14 years of my life. I went from snuff to Zyns about 6 years ago, and over the last 3 years I was doing about a can a day - usually two 6mg Zyns at a time. Looking back, that amount seems insane, and honestly it’s no wonder I felt like shit.

I decided to quit a few weeks ago for several reasons, but the biggest one was this: Zyn absolutely crushed my motivation.

I realized nicotine is basically just “dopamine in my pocket.” The first pouch feels amazing, but after a while you’re mostly just using it to feel normal again. A few hours later you want another one. Eventually it turns into a cycle where you’re chasing the feeling of that first Zyn, but never actually getting back there - each pouch is just temporarily relieving the withdrawal caused by the last one.

I’ve always been into fitness and tried to take my health seriously, but over time my motivation, discipline, and overall drive just got obliterated - largely because of Zyns. Why go to the gym for dopamine when I could just sit at home, throw in a pouch, and doomscroll?

When I quit, the first 4 days were annoying but honestly not nearly as bad as I expected. Mostly minor headaches, cravings, and some brain fog. My recommendation would be to quit during a stretch where you have 72 hours to take it easy and grind through the worst of it.

After that, around days 5-6, I started feeling amazing. I got back into the gym consistently, locked back in at work, started eating clean again, and overall just dialed in. It felt like my brain was finally working the way it’s supposed to.

Also, my sleep has been amazing. I used to think I had terrible insomnia. I would load up on melatonin and I’d still stay awake until 2-3am trying to fall asleep. Ever since I quit I fall asleep within 10-15 mins and wake up feeling great.

I think the biggest thing is staying away from your triggers during the first couple weeks. Once you get over that initial hump and start feeling good naturally again, the idea of using nicotine loses a lot of its appeal.

I could go into way more detail about changes I’ve noticed, but I don’t want to make this even longer than it already is. Just know that quitting is completely worth it, and I’d strongly recommend giving it a shot.
