Canon turrets have been heavily nerfed since launch
Currently, they are absolutely blind and people don't even bother destroying them. Their state is pathetic. I liked when they actually sniped you from halfway across the map, which required players to be on active lookout for them. Those are long range heavy defense turrets, yet they don't do anything most of the time even if the rest of the outpost is getting destroyed. How to fix this situation?
