I’m a college student so I don’t have much time and I don’t have a big girl job yet. I’m concerned about learning too many things by myself because I don’t wanna develop poor technique. How am I doing? Do you think I should commit to teaching myself or should I slow down and get a coach when I’m financially ready? I also took like a two week break before taking these clips.
I’ve been periodically ice-skating every few years just going in circles during busy public session, but I decided to challenge myself this year and learn things. Everything here I learned this year from things I’ve seen on reels.
My friends say if I get a coach I’d be ready for the Olympics in a few years 😭 I wanna hear what you guys think.
Edit: thank you all for your thoughtful responses! I wanted constructive criticism outside of my circle, and I got it! I found out my rink has a 195 dollar package for 6 beginner ice skating sessions. That’s a pretty good deal I think I can do, and it’s the summer, so I’ll have a bit more time. I plan to pace myself and refine the basics during the summer, then join the club at my college. The coach is an Olympian!
I don’t think I’m very strong, so I’ll work on strength training at the gym and stretch more frequently to prevent injury and improve balance. I wasn’t sure if it was normal to be able to do these many things with my limited experience. After reading your responses, I realized I should focus on the foundations, then work my way up for better results. I’m so eager to learn, but it’s not worth it to push myself to do things with no direction. Thanks for giving me some credit. Hopefully, I can make an update in a few months if I manage to improve and if people are interested!
