Want to learn Bharatanatyam, but don't speak Tamil

Hi all,

I'm from Rajasthan, and have always been fascinated with Bharatanatyam. As you can guess, it's not really a common dance lesson I could take growing up, but now that I'm an adult, with money to pay for classes, and also try learning online, I was wondering if knowing exactly what's being spoken in Tamil necessary to learn it?

I get you should know the tala, and ragas, and I did have Sanskrit as my third language which helps me understand a few words here and there. However, all the videos I've seen on youtube has Tamil lyrics, which I couldn't grasp. Hoping someone here could help with this. Thanks!
