Studying in between Osaka and Kyoto

Hey I’m trying to plan to study abroad for hopefully a year in Japan I have about a year or a semester because I don’t want to feel rushed (plus ticket prices). I know Japan has a ton of rules I need some help knowing common rules and I need to know what’s common for Americans that will be mad disrespectful for locals. Also how do I get in contact with other Americans us embassy and just help in general if I feel overwhelmed I know most foreigners aren’t despised but Americans aren’t anyone’s favorite subject right now. And one more thing I’m mixed and I’ve seen a lot Japanese people like grab and feel hair without permission I personally and culturally view that as disrespectful and it makes me a little uncomfortable how do I deter that or politely tell them not to do that.
