17 y/o deciding between G16 (16GB/5070) vs G14 (32GB/5070 Ti) for college + gaming
I’m 17 and starting college soon for construction management/construction science. I’ll be using software like Revit and AutoCAD, but I also want something I can game on in my free time.
I work part-time making about $15/hr, usually around 3 hours a day, 5 days a week. I’m most likely going to finance the laptop through best buy and trying to make a smart long-term decision since this will likely be my main laptop through college.
Right now I’m trying to decide between:
ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (RTX 5070, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD)
ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (RTX 5070 Ti, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD)
The G16 is way cheaper and has a bigger 16” screen, which seems nice for productivity and gaming.
The G14 is more expensive but has 32GB RAM and a stronger GPU (5070 Ti), plus it’s more portable for carrying around campus.
My situation/goals:
Construction management major (Revit/AutoCAD workload)
Gaming in free time
Need it to last through college without feeling outdated
Budget is important since I’m only working part-time (~$15/hr, ~15 hrs/week)
My main question is:
Is the extra RAM + 5070 Ti on the G14 worth the higher price, or is the G16 already enough for what I need?
I’m also trying to avoid overpaying for something I don’t actually need, but I don’t want to cheap out and regret it later either.
Any advice is appreciated.
