Mumbai local has its own language nobody teaches you - “Virar side”, “ghus ja”, “danda milega”, “fast pakad”. Which phrase took you the longest to understand?

Every Mumbai local commuter slowly learns a completely unofficial language.

Nobody teaches you what:

• “Virar side”

• “andar chalo”

• “danda milega”

• “fast pakad”

• “Churchgate utrega?”

• “line clear hai?”

actually mean.

But after a few months of commuting, these phrases become second nature.

For new commuters, half the confusion isn’t the railway system - it’s understanding the commuter vocabulary around it.

What was the Mumbai local phrase that confused you the most when you first started travelling?
