This is a superbly interesting coin, minted in Antwerp 1592. Antwerp from 1584-85 had been mercilessly been besieged by the Spanish under Alessandro Farnese, during the 80 years war. The Great Siege of Antwerp is one of the largest in European History and forever rewrote the boarders of the low countries. Here we have the smug face of Philip II, who didn't seem to mind much at the casualties numbering in the thousands and the siege bankrupting the Spanish state. Jubilant no doubt at seizing Antwerp.
