LPC vs SQE
I did my LLB Law undergraduate between 2016-2019. I then took a couple of years working (worked in a law firm, worked for the Police) then started the LLM SQE 1 & 2 course with the University of Law in September 2025 (full time). I sat the SQE1 exam in January 2026 and found it horrendous - I have a number of additional/learning needs (ADHD, suspected autism & dyslexia) which meant I found the exam 10 times more difficult than usual exams. I failed and then decided I couldn’t (financially, emotionally or mentally cope with sitting it again for a while).
(To note - I did get reasonable adjustments for the SQE1 exams - extra time, own room)
I have recently secured a role as a paralegal in a firm that are incredibly supportive and I hope to have a long career with.
My question is - those who have experience with both the LPC & SQE - which one one you recommend to someone who struggled with the SQE1 exam (the format - lengthy questions & answers, memory test, tight time constraints, having to differentiate between very similar answers).
There is one more opening for the LPC this September with ULaw before they stop offering it and I am genuinely really considering this as I don’t know if I can face sitting the SQE1 again, failing, wasting another £2k and then only have one more attempt left for 6 years….
I feel stuck at a point where I may never qualify as a Solicitor because of how much I struggled with the SQE1 exams…
