Should I replace a shutter pre-emptively?
I picked up a (heavily) used Canon R6 for a great price (even factoring in a shutter replacement, I still come out below refurbished/used pricing). I’ve never even come close to wearing out a shutter on any camera I’ve had, so I was wondering: does it ever make sense to replace a shutter pre-emptively?
For context, the shutter count is at 412k on the R6 (but again, I factored in the cost of a shutter replacement and it was still cheaper than the other options AND it came with a year of warranty)
Will there be telltale signs while it’s still usable or will it just jam unexpectedly at some point? My biggest and only fear is that it somehow jams in the closed position on a vacation (so I can’t just switch to electronic shutter)
I have seen some users claiming their shutters are still healthy at 900k, but I thought I’d ask here.
Should I worry about the shutter count at all? Should I switch shooting modes to alleviate any risks? or should I just use it as normally knowing I might have to replace it at some point?
