New Legion Go 2 GPU Driver and Adrenaline issue Explained
Hey!
So as many have noticed, good old windows pushed a new driver: 32.0.23033.1002 (April 28th) versus the old one of 32. 0.23017.1001 (January 8th)
BUT once this installed, when you opened AMD Adrenaline it stated it was now version 25.30 (but also dated April 28th) which was down from the previous version 26.1.1 (dated January 8th).
I Searched everywhere and found no difference in functionality in the app so I dug deeper.
Turns out that if you go to Settings - System - Software and Driver Details:
- Driver Version:
25.30.33.01-260309a-200452C-Lenovo - AMD Windows Driver Version:
32.0.23033.1002
| What you're looking at | Version |
|---|---|
| Marketing version | 26.3.1 |
| Internal driver branch | 25.30.33.01. |
| Windows driver version | 32.0.23033.1002 |
That combination corresponds directly to AMD's 26.3.1 driver branch. In fact, AMD's own 26.3.1 release notes list the display driver version as 25.30.33.0.1 and the Windows driver version as 32.0.23033.1002.
So the situation is:
The Legion Go 2 is displaying the internal branch number (25.30.33.01) instead of the marketing version (26.3.1).
I am certain that within a few days or weeks there will be a new version ready to download from Lenovos website, which will fix this but if you installed the newer driver but were questioning the Adrenaline Version Displayed (Like I was) it looks like it is indeed up to date, it is not an old version.
This would be fixed if Lenovo hadn't gone backwards in their promise of allowing us to just update from AMD Website but why do they care - a $3000 device should always be out of date - we expect too much!
