Dew points above 20C recorded in Devon and Cornwall during recent heatwave

During this recent hot spell we've had - even though London recorded the highest temperatures with a peak of 35.1C at Kew Gardens, only Devon and Cornwall recorded dew points of above 20C.

Compared with London, where the relative humidity was only 30% and a dew point of 13C. Despite the higher temperatures recorded in the SE and East of England, the air would have felt a lot drier and more tolerable.

In Devon and Cornwall, dew points of 20.2C in North Wyke, and 20.7C in Cardinham, would have ensured that the air felt much hotter, more sticky and oppressive, despite the slightly lower temperatures. Almost tropical-like humidity compared to London and the east of England where the air was much drier.

Here are some pictures I took on a daytrip to Penzance from Devon in November last year. Three hours each way on the train, well worth it.

I particularly enjoyed Morrab Gardens with the exotic plants, and of course the coastal path. I also visited the neighbouring villages of Newlyn, Mousehole, and Paul.
