Hi! I'm a first-generation Filipino-American living in the United States and I want to feel more connected with my people. What kind of books do people back home read?

Hello! My name is Kiyo and I love reading. My parents immigrated to America soon after I was born, so all I know about the Philippines is stories that my family has told me. I got back into reading books last year and it has just crossed my mind, "What do bookworms back home usually read?" So here I am to ask that very question. What do people back home usually read? What kind of genres do people gravitate towards? Do they read the classics, literature from the past?

I really want recommendations! Tell me your favorite books, as well as what books you're reading right now. As a preface, I read fantasy books when I need to relax. I grew up on Percy Jackson and the Harry Potter books. Right now I'm reading "The Lord of the Rings" by Tolkien and "The Stormlight Archive" by Brandon Sanderson. When it comes to classic literature, my favorite writer so far is William Faulkner, but I also really like John Steinbeck.

To be honest, I've always struggled with my cultural identity, so I'm hoping that any insight will help me feel more connected with the lifestyle back home. Any responses are welcome! I'm especially interested in books written by people who live in the Philippines.
