Play it or preserve it?

My wife recently surprised me with a limited edition putter that I’ve been in love with since it was announced, the 2026 Bettinardi Tiki putter.
It’s still in the plastic, laying in the box and has never seen the course. Part of me wants to game it because that’s what golf clubs are made for, and I know I’d enjoy using something that has sentimental value attached to it.

On the other hand, I’ve seen some limited-run putters appreciate in value over time, especially if they remain in mint condition. Once it starts seeing rounds, that collector value obviously changes.

This is my first limited edition club. For those of you who collect putters or have experience with limited editions:
-Would you play it or keep it pristine?

-Have you ever regretted gaming a collectible putter?

-Do most “limited edition” putters actually appreciate meaningfully, or is that the exception rather than the rule?

-Does the fact that it was a gift change your thinking at all?

I’m torn and in uncharted waters as most of my clubs come from 2nd Swing. Curious what this community would do in my shoes.

Cheers.
