GX Towing
Hey everyone, I wanted to share a few pictures and some thoughts from our first towing trip with our ‘23 GX.
We towed our 2017 High Wall tent trailer over Chinook Pass in Washington this past weekend. The trailer’s dry weight is around 3,200 lbs, and loaded up we were probably right around 3,800 lbs. Total trip was about 270 miles, including climbing roughly 5,000 feet over the pass.
Overall, the GX towed incredibly well both up and down the mountain. I kept it in manual shift almost the entire trip, mainly alternating between 3rd and 4th gear. Fuel mileage ended up around 13.5 MPG, which honestly seemed pretty solid considering the terrain and load.
For towing setup, we’re using a Curt Echo brake controller along with a Curt anti-sway bar. Even with a couple “pucker moment” situations and briefly hitting 70 MPH a few times, the trailer stayed planted with zero sway.
I’ll admit, I was a little intimidated before the trip. Previously, we towed a much smaller 1,300 lb tent trailer with our Highlander, so this setup felt like a pretty big jump for us. But after this weekend, I feel a lot more confident in both the GX and the trailer.
Hopefully this helps anyone curious about the GX’s towing capability and stability. Happy to answer any questions!
