I feel sick about spending so much on 30 people.

Is this selfish? So far, I am at $65k for 30 people (three of whom are toddlers) to go to an exclusive use venue out of the country. We wanted to pay for accommodations, food, beverage… make it essentially a free long weekend away with only our families and a few friends.

Well, we are at $65k and that’s not including flowers, dress, photography, hair and makeup, or music. And I feel…. Selfish. A little annoyed. Then I feel guilty. My fiancé believes it’s tacky to have people fly out of the country and not pay for everything (with the exception of their flights), especially since we truly want and expect every single person to be there. I feel mixed on that.

I just keep thinking about how this money, which will easily hit $100k by the end of it, could be used for a beautiful elopement in a truly luxurious setting for probably half the cost. For two weeks vs these three nights. And I wouldn’t be paying for our families and friends to have a free long weekend. (Again, I feel like a dick)

Hi everyone! I need help. We are engaged! Yay! Now, despite my initial mentality of “I’m just going to enjoy being engaged for a while” …I have completely abandoned all responsibilities and can’t seem to stop wedding planning.

I would LOVE venue help. Half of our guests are in the US and half are in Europe, so I’d like somewhere in this hemisphere. BUT I’m open to anywhere! Scotland! Italy! USA! Wherever.

Here are my guidelines:

-exclusive use with staff

-25 to 30 people (a few kids)

-accommodations on site and included in total cost

-beautiful naturally for photography (ex. castle, history, villa with character, beautiful landscape, non hotel feel)

-my goal is $50k all in, if this is possible (3 nights)

My goal is for it to feel like we are in someone’s summer or winter home for a long weekend… and oh, there happens to be a wedding too. It’s luxurious, it’s warm and cozy, it’s inviting, we don’t lift a finger. I envision a long table with a dinner party feel. I don’t know if my budget is too low. I want to cover accommodations and food. No worries for my guests. I just want it to feel like quality time with my 25 favorite people.
