After the end of the Great War in 1945, the Allied took nations over the various territories controlled by the Axis powers. The German Empire and the Kingdom of Iberia divided South Africa between them, creating their respective spheres of influence, leaving only the Congo as a neutral nation. On February 8, 1949, Boer separatists aligned with the Socialist Republic of Great Britain attempted to overthrow the German colonial government in Cape Town and establish a communist government, with the support of mainland Germany and the Netherlands. The Cape Town government managed to crush the rebellion, expelling them back to London.
