Help, Home Insurance Cancellation Over Maintenance

Location: United States, Montana

Issue: Home insurance canceled over maintenance

My insurance company sent out a home inspector in January of this year to review the exterior of my home. I got a notice in February that exterior paint, rotting/broken window frames, and fascia and soffits needed to be addressed. Cancellation was scheduled for March 31, but I received an extension to the end of June when I asked for one, explaining it is usually winter here until late May.

I contacted a few contractors, and the best contractor I found had the earliest work window at the end of July. I paid 30% down, and provided the invoice to the insurance company rep asking to extend the cancellation date beyond July. Today, I received this email:

>Thank you for your email, I appreciate your response. I reached out to the underwriters at (insurance underwriter) to review the signed contract and they have declined to approve reinstatement at this time. Sadly, they will require proof of the completed work in order to be willing to lift the pending nonrenewal.

>I understand that you are at the mercy of the contractor's availability. If you are not able to have the work completed within the timeframe provided, my best recommendation would be for you to seek coverage elsewhere to avoid a lapse of insurance on the property.

What are my options going forward? Can I appeal this? Will cancellation affect my ability to maintain home insurance through another provider? .
